Community With Opening Sangha Place DC Posted On 10/6/2009, Last Updated On 10/6/2009
We are creating a community-minded group house of socially and spiritually engaged people committed to deepening compassion and wisdom, and we're looking for another housemate to move in with us in mid-October or November 1st. We are located in Washington DC in Petworth near the metro. The room available is in the basement and has its own kitchen and bathroom, for the community to share, and is $675/mo + utilities.

We are three socially engaged individuals with varying practices, primarily Buddhist. We are two women, one man, in our 20s/30s. We plan to meditate together, perform service activities together, and share meals regularly. Collectively, we compose music, study Tai Chi Chuan, lived in Catholic, Buddhist, and Hindu collective homes, follow socially-engaged Buddhist principles, and hone our environmental and social consciousness.

We value respect and compassion. We are committed to direct, non-violent communication. We support each other in self-reflection and t nurture lots o’ joy. We're mindful of the environment— growing vegetables, supporting local farms, recycling, being responsible with our energy and water use. We plan to put our ideals into practice by volunteering with those that are underserved. We value diversity and would like a community based on practice and welcome those of varying race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural background, and all the rest. If you're interested in building a home with us, please e-mail us.

Seeking Community Kevin Blanchard Posted On 10/5/2009, Last Updated On 10/5/2009
Hello all kind spirits, my name is Kevin and I am currently an anthropology/classical culture major at Ball State University in Muncie, In. The university wants more money out of me and I just don't have it. I believe I can attain more ethnographic knowledge living in a smaller community. I've worked in organic gardens in Hawaii and have basic growing knowledge. Although I do not have much money I am a hard working, loving, spiritual, and kind person looking for a new home and a new chance. I am willing to re -locate anywhere. The life I lived in Hawaii is one I wish to live again. I do not think, nay, I know this world we are to work and live is not the one for me. I love community, understanding, sharing of food, knowledge (the true wealth), and spirit. I am a tapped well, parched, thirsty for the water of humanity.

I am a two-time member of one community listed here, the Jesus People USA (Evangelical Covenant Church).

My personal history also places me in a couple other lesser known Christian communes, one having been the Highway Missionaries, alternately known as The Servant Community.

A remnant of the former Servant Community still exists as part of the Vineyard Central Church in Cinci OH, where i recently visited briefly.

And i remain friendly with a few of the folks at Jpusa.

I am pleased to note that a friend from inside the Jesus People has joined with me on the admin. of this listing.

Lyda Jackson is her name. She has my full confidence as a long-term member of the community.
