All,
Those looking to form, in the process of forming,or already started small communities, we need to start a communicaion network so that we can pool resources and unite to support each other's efforts. It doesn't matter where you are or what your core intentions or beliefs are, we all have something to offer and can contribute to our common vision. Please share any ideas or suggestions on how we can create communication methods, a database, or other resource sharing and support systems that will move us all forward. Individually we struggle, united we will prevail. We don't need to re-invent the wheel as we can leverage the information and resources from those who came before us, but we need to organize, manage, and coordinate the efforts.

Also, for all brothers and sisters of green, self-reliant living; we assume there will always be the Internet and public utilities. What if a world or govt event happens where those are unavailable and we have to communicate and co-op like the Indians did and had to shift to survival mode? Are we prepared for that? How would/could that work?

I dream of a cashless society where we live fearless and secure in our community reliance for goods, services, and health care. We can't continue to to put our security in digital dollars that could disappear in an instant.

I'm looking to form a community in or around Western Pennsylvania. See The Next Evolution in the directory listing for Pennsylvania.

Peace

I don't think money and land is the primary stumbling block to forming "community", I think the primary problem is unity over the fundamental ethics and primary goals. Several years ago when I was with my ex-wife and others, she was willing to give nearly a half-million dollars to a community if it succeeded. Our community vision was a community of 200 to 300 people, two to a bedroom, eating and growing our food communally, sharing a bathhouse, laundromat and library; and only requiring 2 to 4 hours a day of labor to provide these bare minimums. And the vision required at least some individual/cooperative free enterprise and allowed for differences in wealth. It did however prohibit usury, was pacifist, endorsed a stable population and endorsed organic agriculture and whole foods. While it is possible to "blame" others, I think we must always reflect on our own shortcomings regarding these attempts, the socio-economic design itself, and so on and so forth. I remain committed to trying to make this happen because I believe it is truly a different communal/socioeconomic design and I think it would work very well. But, obviously it needs to be tried before proving itself conclusively. I am soon to come into an inheritance, and I would gladly give it to such a project. It is so important, I think anyway, that there be abundant natural resources and no debt.....and be available to those with no resourses. Of course, we all think each others ideas are crazy, right? Ha, Ha

Resources Orchard-House in Berkeley Posted On 4/16/2006, Last Updated On 3/15/2010
This is an IC project to visit or join if you want to be REALLY serious about solving challenges still limiting future sustainable ICs. We have a house ... largest orchard in Berkeley, to show how much food a 1/10 acre Vegan farm can produce. ASAP, it needs help organizing 10+ new members (some UC/Cal students) to help bring it together, and the house must be remodeled. Our goal is to be as utopian as practical, pacifist, and 100% exploitation-free. (non-profit ownership, not private/capitalist)

Our plan is use a new community economy system and a network of rural ecovillages so that families from the city may have rural "2nd homes" with orchards, vacations, retirement, emergency retreats etc. at the rural ICs. Membership should be permanent in the network, not in an individual house. We can provide resources and volunteers for a california rural location this spring!

Here in the SF San Francisco bay area, we plan parties to get the gardens planted. The link below has more info. We want to promote ICs for interns also.

As for other resources, IC.org really needs a good IC-oriented personals webpage. When it has a link for FREE personals, it will really help the IC movement and magazine circulation, because finding a true IC-oriented partner is the biggest challenge for potential seekers. This "reach" page can really use help also, because "search" hardly works, and with only 5 posts per page reachbook is not very practical.

Community Forming laSenda EcoVillage.. Posted On 4/27/2007, Last Updated On 3/13/2010
IT'S 'GET REAL' TIME & SUSTAINABILITY IS 'IT'!!

We're looking for self-aware people who see sustainable community based on agriculture as an important part of the new reality. We believe Tolles 'New Earth' gave us a path towards how to live with higher awareness and more readily reach consensus in community.

We are striving to create sustainable community through growing food, investing in alternative energy, using our own water, and outreaching to the greater community in meaningful ways.

LaSenda EcoVillage is 6 acres of beautiful land & trees, complete with 200 yards of ponds with flowing water (see photos in blog) and rich soil for growing organic food. We have a mild year-round growing climate & very high solar hours. Our plan is to construct ten sustainable living units in the bamboo forest fronting the ponds. Most of our tropical fruit will also be among the bamboo.

laSenda's legal structure will be a block of shares of equal value to be purchased, held, and sold. A full share buy-in at about $80K includes a solar-passive rammed earth house & a share of the land, Community Center & other buildings.

Thousands of happy 'gringos' live in this area of the central highlands of Mexico. Don't believe the media hype, come see for yourselves-

Check out our blog for more info & If interested, contact us.
